 The Migration section is a part of the Embassy of Sweden. The section is mainly responsible for receiving and verifying applications for visa and residence permit, making decisions in visa cases, conducting interviews with applicants, answering questions on phone/email/mail among other things. The Section is looking to expand its team with migration assistant, due to an upcoming responsibility for Ethiopian visa cases. The suitable candidate should have a good command of written and spoken Amharic.

Main duties:

  • Handle residence/student and work permit applications
  • Conduct interviews with applicant, including Amharic speaking
  • Handle visa applications and follow instructions from decision-maker
  • Handle resettlement cases, including communication with IOM/UNCHR
  • Verifying documents
  • Reply to applicants´ queries, both in writing and over the phone

Qualifications (all skills are required):

  • Excellent command of written and spoken Amharic

The Embassy seeks to recruit an experienced Security Officer with a deep understanding of threats and risks that a diplomatic mission in Kenya is faced with. The ideal candidate should be a good team player, be discrete with a high level of integrity.

Main duties

  • Liaise and share security-related information and incidents with focal points at other embassies, UN, EU and diplomatic police;
  • Ensure quick dissemination of security advisories to staff members and spouses when needed;
  • Provide security briefings to staff members and spouses or visitors;
  • Conduct training of staff members and spouses to heighten their security awareness, conduct emergency exercises at the embassy;

  • The workplace will mainly be at the Embassy in Nairobi, however occasional duty trips may be required.

Reporting

The Assistant Security Adviser will be part of the Embassy’s Administrative Section, report to the Head of Administration but liaise closely with the Regional Security Advisor;

Education and experience

  • A bachelor level university degree from a recognized institution. Specialized education within security or risk management is an added advantage.
  • A minimum of three years of experience working with security in an international organisation or diplomatic mission organisation.
  • Knowledge of threats and risks that a diplomatic mission in Kenya is faced with.
  • Experience with performing training session including training of security guards in various procedures and SOP’s is an added advantage
  • Knowledge of local languages spoken in Kenya and Kenya’s wide security issues is an added advantage
  • Previous work experience with alarms, CCTV, physical security installations etc.

Main duties

The main tasks of the Politics, Stabilisation and Human Rights Team is to monitor and report on the political, security situation in Somalia, contribute to formulating Danish policies and programmes in Somalia, implement Danish human rights engagement in Somalia including engagement related to children’s and women’s rights and to oversee and monitor the implementation of the Danish Peace and Stabilisation Programme for the Horn of Africa (PSP HOA).

As Programme Officer you will be responsible for the implementation, monitoring, administration and coordination of a number of Danish engagements in the field of human rights and protection under the Danish Somalia Country Programme (SCP). This encompasses working with the Danish development aid management systems, including the digital interfaces for financial management and management of the result framework. The Danish Somalia Country Programme spells out the Danish development priorities in Somalia and is structured around three thematic programmes of Governance/State-building; Economic and Private Sector Development and Protection/Human Rights. Your main task will be to work with partners to implement their respective engagements under the SCP in the field of women’s and child rights, including the Danish National Action Plan on UNSC Resolution 1325 on Women, Peace and Security. This includes engaging with partners on work plans, budgets, narrative and financial reports, updating internal MFA systems as well as linking their work to key Danish human rights priorities.

Your work will also include general political analysis and assisting the Political Counsellor in reporting on the political situation to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Denmark and preparing political meetings. Within this work, you will also contribute with strategic inputs to develop the Danish policy and support for human rights issues in Somalia. You are, overall, expected to show the flexibility required for an optimal handling of tasks across the Somalia Unit at the Embassy and thus might be requested to take on other tasks if need be.

Reporting

The Programme Officer reports to the team leader in the Politics, Stabilisation and Human Rights team and will work closely with all 6 team members.

Main tasks and responsibilities

  • Inputting to political analysis of the Team and assist the Political Counsellor with political reporting and preparation for political meetings
  • Networking with local and international partners, analysists and experts.
  • Project Management of engagements on human rights implemented in Somalia. This includes monitoring work plans and budgets, reviewing narrative and financial reports, reporting on results including in internal MFA systems, meetings with partners and coordination with national and international partners.
  • Participate in relevant aid coordination working groups.
  • With the team ensuring a focus on the humanitarian-development-peace nexus.

Education and Desired Experience

  • Master’s Degree (ideally in political science, peace, stabilisation and/or development studies, security studies or similar).
  • 2-5 years working experience with programme/project and financial management of development programmes and experience of managing budgets, reporting and monitoring preferably using digital platforms.
  • 2-5 years of working experience in/on Somalia, knowledge of local and national dynamics and a strong network in Somalia.
  • Strong skills within policy analysis and political fair.

ROLE OVERVIEW:

The position will report to the Division Manager – GrainPro Africa. The Regional Manager will be charged with development of new business opportunities within the region with the aim of achieving GrainPro business objectives as well as enhance the company’s profitability and market share while advocating the company’s mission of helping reduce world hunger. The RM will have thorough knowledge of GrainPro’s products and their functionality therefore being responsible for training the customers on setup of GrainPro products as well as provide guidance and supervision to customers. The incumbent will have a close and comprehensive understanding of GrainPro’s, strategy, objectives and the product offering as well as a good knowledge of the agriculture sectors in the region and associated trade processes.

KEY RESPONSIBILITES:

1          Sales and Marketing

  • Demonstrate a thorough understanding of the company, its strategy and objectives as well as its product offering;
  • Good knowledge of the end-to-end agriculture market in Southern Africa region and associated trade processes;
  • Ability to identify marketing strategies for the different agriculture market players with potential need of company products;
  • Lead business development initiatives in the region with a healthy pipeline of potential clients.
  • Forge new and maintain existing relationships in the agriculture sector specifically the leading food and food commodity sub-sectors with the highest potential of adopting company products e.g corn and pulses in all countries within the region as food and coffee as food commodity;
  • Undertake a thorough SWOT analysis of the regions’ agriculture market as well as strategies for enhancing the strengths and opportunities, converting weaknesses to strengths as well as mitigation measures for the threats;
  • Ability to assess the potential of the assigned market leading to near realistic and well-informed sales targets with a strong supporting rationale;
  • Ability to work with each potential customer towards identifying their annual drying, storage and shipping needs which should then inform the sales projections;
  • Sales projections have to be met and a rationale provided when they are not met;
  • Ability to interact closely with existing and potential customers key decision makers towards informing their investment decisions and advising on solutions for the agricultural needs in our products;
  • Lead re-design of sales and product presentations as per individual customer needs, facilitate contract negotiations and closing;
  • Keep the Division Offices updated with relevant information including forecasts and other market updates needed for smooth operational activity
  • Ensure the success of projects implemented within the region adhering to GrainPro’s quality delivery standards, leading to incremental sales;

2         Distributor management

  • Recruit and facilitate contracting of distributors in the countries within the region where GrainPro is not represented;
  • Liaise with the distributor to come up with a realistic and achievable annual workplan, marketing plan and sales projections. These should be tracked monthly, reviewed quarterly;
  • Quarterly progress reports written jointly with the distributor and submitted together with order quantities for re-stock;
  • Ensure distributor assigned key personnel are qualified and well trained to represent GrainPro and continuously updated with product re-design and new introductions;
  • Continuously re-evaluate GrainPro representation in the region to ensure effectiveness and efficiency of serving our customers.

3         Finance

  • Responsible for the profitability of the region;
  • Liaise with GrainPro Africa finance director and division manager to ensure the activities within the region are included in the overall budget;
  • Monitor region’s budget utilization against sales delivered on a monthly basis and provide rational for deviation as well as savings quarterly;
  • Any budget deviations above 10% should be approved by both Division manager and finance director. Overall regional budget divisions above 10% should be approved by the president and CFP notified;
  • Accounts Receivable for the region:
    • Ensure timely collection of receivables.
    • Ensure that receivables will not turn into bad debts.
    • Recommend for the application of 15% penalty on past due accounts.
    • Coordinate with Division Manager and GPA finance director for Client Credit Application.
  • Stock inventory:
    • Ensure sufficient stock is available with each distributor to avoid overstock and stock outs;
    • For requested stock at GPK warehouse, take responsibility for non-movement and provide a disposition plan for stock over 90 days.
  • Compliance to Tax Rules, Reporting Standards and Audit requirements.
    • Ensure that sales and expense transactions are properly supported, compliant with regulations and accurately reported.
    • Liaise with finance director to ensure audit findings and recommendations are implemented for the Countries covered that have a GrainPro office and warehouse.

4          GrainPro Africa contribution

  • Participate in the overall success of GrainPro Africa through contribution in various activities that increase company awareness in the agriculture sector as well as other related sectors – financing, insurance, shipping etc
  • Take charge of GrainPro Africa marketing strategy roll out and implementation, working together with other Africa staff and collating what works, what needs to be improved and what needs to be dropped.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • A degree in engineering or sales and marketing.
  • A minimum of 4- 5 years’ experience for the Country Representative in sales and marketing management, agricultural Engineering or any other relevant experience.
  • Project Management experience is preferable.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English is required and a good command of French or Portuguese is a plus.
  • Could be based out of Malawi or Zambia with permission to work and live there.
  • Strong ethical background and proven business development experience in related industries are a must.
